Trump Surrogate: Muslim Ban Was Never ‘A Ban Directed at Religion’
Donald Trump surrogate Carl Paladino somewhat bafflingly claimed Tuesday that Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States was never supposed to be a “ban directed at religion.”
The Wall Street Journal asked Paladino about comments made by Trump recently that appeared to show a weakening of his stance. “It wouldn’t bother me,” Trump said when asked whether Muslims from the United Kingdom should be allowed to enter the country.
But Paladino insisted that Trump did not flip-flop. “I don’t think it was ever a ban directed at religion,” he said.
In fact, Paladino dismissed the notion that Trump had to give a clear outline of his plan at all. “Expecting a clear definition is a little bit much in the middle of a presidential campaign,” he argued.
