Ex-NFL Star Accuses WNBA’s Angel Reese of Inciting Death Threats In Wild Social Media Spat

Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III blamed Chicago Sky star Angel Reese for his family receiving death threats in a lengthy tweet.
On Wednesday, Reese was announced as the cover athlete for the WNBA Edition of NBA 2K26. That decision was met with outrage among critics of Reese, and that outrage soon escalated to racist attacks against Reese. One user even edited the cover featuring Reese to instead include an image of a monkey.
The next day, Griffin condemned the attacks.
“Alright. This has got to stop,” he said, adding, “There is no place for racism in this world. Whether you like a player or not. Angel Reese should never be called or depicted as a Monkey.”
As the tweet continued, Griffin — who previously sparked outrage in a tweet claiming Reese hates fellow WNBA star Caitlin Clark — also accused Reese of sharing a video that led to his family receiving death threats and threats of sexual violence.
“I have been quiet on the Angel Reese front because she shared a video that aided in my wife, kids, family and friends receiving death threats,” he added, “threats of physical harm to my family and friends and threats of sexual violence to my children on social media and beyond.
“That will never be okay with me. I never attacked her or her family when I stated and backed up with clear basketball evidence that Angel Reese hates Caitlin Clark. It’s sports. Everybody won’t like each other.”
He then said that he personally spoke to people in Reese’s “inner circle” and that they confirmed his assertions that she hates Clark.
That tweet eventually caught the attention of Reese, who took to X/Twitter to deny Griffin having any dialogue with those close to her.
“Lying on this app when everybody knows the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nasty work,” she said.
Griffin has found himself at the center of controversy on multiple occasions lately. He recently tried to make the argument that Jackie Robinson breaking the MLB’s color barrier wasn’t political.
