NFL Draft Prospect Reveals at Combine That He Doesn’t Believe In Space — Says Flat-Earthers Have ‘Valid Points’
An NFL Draft prospect offered an interesting theory when he revealed to the media Thursday that he doesn’t believe in space.
During his NFL Scouting Combine media availability, Texas Tech University defensive back Tyler Owens was asked by Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski what he doesn’t believe in. That’s when the fifth-year senior shared his thoughts on life outside of Earth.
“I don’t believe in space,” Owens told Sobleski. “I’m real religious, so I think we’re on our own right now. I don’t think there’s other planets and other stuff like that. I don’t know.”
For some people hearing those comments, the first thing that might come to mind is the other brow-raising theory involving our planet — the belief that the Earth is flat. Owens said that theory has “valid points” in connection to his theory.
“I used to believe in the heliocentric thing,” Owens said in reference to the widely-accepted theory that the planets revolve around the Sun, “but then I started seeing flat-Earth stuff and I was like, ‘This is kind of interesting,’ and they started bringing up valid points. I mean, I don’t know. Could be real. Couldn’t be.”
Interesting theories about the planet aren’t uncommon in the world of sports. Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving was vocal in his belief that the Earth was flat before later apologizing for it.
