Russian Olympic Athlete Wears ‘I Don’t Do Doping’ Shirt…Then Fails Doping Test

Wonder of wonders, irony of ironies.

Russian bobsledder Nadezhda Sergeeva (right) tested positive for a banned heart medication, Russian bobsled federation president Alexander Zubkov announced Friday.

That comes after Sergeeva was spotted during training for the Olympics wearing a shirt under her training suit that read “I Don’t Do Doping.” Well, apparently, she does.

Sergeeva is the second Olympian – and the second from Russia – to fail a doping test at these games. (The first was Russian curler Alexander Krushelnitsky.)

Russia was banned from officially competing in the Olympics this year after the revelation that the country was engaged in a government-supported doping scandal that encouraged athletes to take drugs as part of their preparation for the Olympics. Their athletes are hence competing under the name “The Olympic Athletes From Russia.”

Sergeeva told Yahoo Sports that she was bummed out by the decision to ban Russia from the games.

“If we are here, and we are clean, we should be able to walk under our flag,” she said.

Maybe. But she won’t be.
