The Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday announced the firing of offensive coordinator Matt Canada. The team’s offense is statistically among the worst in the league.
Despite holding a 6-4 record as of Week 11, the Steelers offense ranks 28th in yards per game and 28th in points per game with just 16.6. Additionally, the Steelers have been outgained in every game this season.
After the game on Sunday — a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns — running back Najee Harris expressed his frustration with the offense and emphasized it wasn’t a reliable way to win games. Now, it’s become clear the organization was in agreement.
Najee Harris questions how long the Steelers’ record will look good if they continue to play like this.
“I look like at it like how long is this shit gonna last. It’s a good record but this is the NFL. Winning like how we did is not going to get us nowhere.” pic.twitter.com/iOpgz9L5dB

For Steelers fans, the move was a long time coming. The team’s offensive struggles have been apparent since the beginning of the season, and many wanted Canada gone after just a few games. Then, Twitter users discovered an account they believed to be a burner handled by Canada due to its frequent defense of the coach online. That only intensified the sentiment.
As ESPN insider Adam Schefter noted, the decision to fire Canada in the middle of the season is an unprecedented one. The Steelers have been a model of stability for decades, and this marks the first time the team’s let go of a coach mid-season since 1941.
