Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill celebrated a touchdown on Sunday during his team’s home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars by appearing to reference his pre-game detainment over a reported traffic violation.

Hill, 30, was removed from his vehicle and briefly detained outside of Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday morning. He was later released and started in Sunday’s game.

With 2:08 left in the third quarter and with Miami trailing Jacksonville 17-7, Hill caught a pass from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa that he took 80 yards to the house. He appeared to celebrate the score by reenacting his pre-game police detainment:

According to ESPN, the score that preceded the celebration was the longest touchdown catch of Hill’s NFL career. ESPN noted:

After a Travis Etienne Jr. fumble into the end zone, Miami scored on the next play when quarterback Tua Tagovailoa found receiver Tyreek Hill for an 80-yard touchdown — the first score of the season for both players.

Tagovailoa faked a handoff to running back Raheem Mostert and looked for receiver Jaylen Waddle on a slant route. The first read on the run-pass option was well-covered by Jacksonville, but Hill managed to break away from defensive backs Andre Cisco and Ronald Darby.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported on Hill’s brief police detainment Sunday morning, sharing a video of the incident that went viral on social media.

Miami-Dade Police Department Director Stephanie V. Daniels vowed an “immediate review” of what led up to Hill’s run-in with cops.

“We are aware of the recent detainment of Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill by Miami-Dade Police Department officers,” she said in a statement. “I have requested an immediate review of all details surrounding the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage. We will provide updates as further information becomes available.”

Miami defeated Jacksonville 20-17 in its come-from-behind Sunday victory.
