ABC’s Karl Confronts Ted Cruz Over Refugee Crisis Stance: ‘No Muslims, Only Christians?’
During yesterday’s airing of World News Tonight, ABC’s Jonathan Karl interviewed Ted Cruz, and asked a series of hard-hitting questions regarding Cruz’s proposal for a bill that would ban Syrian refugees from entering the country.
Following the attacks in Paris and reports that the terrorists got into Europe by posing as fleeing migrants, numerous governors and public officials have publicly stated that those fleeing ISIS’ violence would not be welcome in their state. Cruz’s bill would be particularly directed towards Muslims, and Karl asked him about whether that was an “un-American” thing to do, as well as the logistics of how to separate them from Christians.
“There’s no history of ISIS terrorists embedding in the Christian community and pretending to be Christian,” Cruz said. “What I’m suggesting is the Commander in Chief should protect this nation.”
“So you’re saying no Muslims, only Christians? I’m asking your position here,” asked Karl.
As Karl pressed on to confirm Cruz’s positions, the Senator responded that Christians are facing their own form of persecution by ISIS that makes them “qualitatively different,” from fleeing Muslims. When Karl brought up how many sects of Muslims have been oppressed by ISIS control, Cruz firmly said it was not the same.
