ABC’s Robin Roberts Channels Ice Cube to Ding Omarosa: ‘Bye Felisha’
Good Morning America snagged the first interview with Omarosa Manigault, the reality TV star turned White House staffer, since her ousting from President Donald Trump’s administration on Wednesday — and ABC News’s Robin Roberts is not mourning her departure.
After watching a clip from her interview in which Manigault said she will “tell her story,” adding that “it is a profound story that I know the world will want to hear,” Roberts sniped at the Apprentice star’s motives.
“She said she has a story to tell, I’m sure she’ll be selling that story,” Roberts said.
“Bye Felisha,” the ABC host then said into the camera.
That remark, though said quietly, should have perked up the ears of fans of Ice Cube and Chris Tucker’s 1995 classic Friday, as it’s a quote from one of the film’s more memorable scenes:
In the scene above, character Felisha tries to borrow a car off of our hero Smokey (played by Tucker). When he declines, she tries her luck at mooching some weed, but is also rebuffed. When she turns to Craig (played by Cube), his response is a delightful “Bye Felisha” — so delightful, in fact, that it has become a meme.
Roberts’s Friday reference during a discussion of Manigault’s early promotion of her inevitable White House memoir was subtle, yet masterful. Hats off.
