AG William Barr Declines to Answer Question if White House Has Seen Mueller Report
Attorney General William Barr stonewalled on Tuesday when faced with questions about whether the White House has seen Robert Mueller‘s report and whether it vindicates Donald Trump as the president claims.
During Barr’s appearance before the House Appropriations Committee, Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY) said it was “unacceptable” for him to “cherry-pick” Mueller’s report for a four-page summary that mostly draws a favorable conclusion for Trump without broader context. From there, Lowey asked Barr if the White House has received any information beyond his summary letter.
Barr declined to answer, deferring to his previous comments about the four areas of Mueller’s report that will be redacted before its public release next week.
“I have said what I’m going to say about the report today,” Barr said. “I’m not going to say anything more about it until the report is out and everyone has a chance to look at it.”
Lowey pressed — asking Barr to elaborate on his planned redactions, and also if Trump is truly exonerated on obstruction of justice. Barr continuously refused to budge, saying he won’t discuss it anymore until the report comes out.
