Alec Baldwin May Star as Rob Ford-Style Mayor on New TV Series

Alec Baldwin may have retired from public life, but that doesn’t mean he’s retiring from acting. The short-lived MSNBC host most recently appeared as a sleazy tabloid reporter on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, but he could have something even more scandalous up his sleeve for his next television role.

Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Baldwin is “developing a new TV show with NBC Productions, in which he would play the central character, a Rob Ford-type Mayor of New York City.” The show is reportedly being fashioned as a cable drama, which would be necessary to capture some of the more NSFW moments from Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s illustrious career.

In addition to the TV project, Baldwin has shot scenes for upcoming untitled films from both Warren Beatty and Cameron Crowe. And now, as Deadline adds, he is eyeing the role of the head of the CIA in Mission Impossible 5 along with a part in a film starring Will Smith focusing on football concussions.

In other words, that whole scandal that caused him to lose his gig on MSNBC doesn’t seem to be affecting his primary career in any noticeable way.
