Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Slams ICE After Trump Speech: ‘What We Are Seeing Is Death’

Rising Democratic star Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was fired up after Donald Trump‘s Oval Office address, ripping into Trump’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency over the deaths of children in their custody.

On Tuesday night’s edition of The Rachel Maddow Show, the Notorious AOC (trademark pending) delivered a scathing reaction to Trump’s speech, which was rife with the sort of anti-immigrant fear mongering that has characterized his entire pursuit of power.

“The one thing the president has not talked about is the fact he has systematically engaged in the violation of… human rights on our border,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “He has separated children from their families.”

She rebutted Trump’s tales of immigrant crime by noting that “on the day of Christmas, a child died in ICE custody,” referencing the second of two children who died while in custody last month.

“The president should not be asking for more money to an agency that has systematically violated human rights,” she added. “The president should be really defending why we are funding such an agency at all, because right now, what we are seeing is death. Right now what we are seeing is the violation of human rights.”

AOC also said that Trump is fighting “every way people can actually legally enter this country, forcing them to become undocumented, and then he’s trying to attack their undocumented status.”

“This is systematic,” she said. “It is wrong and anti-American, and again, those women and children trying to come here with nothing but the shirts on their back to create an opportunity and provide for this nation are acting more in an American tradition than this president is right now.”

Ocasio-Cortez has been very vocal in her opposition to Trump, recently telling CNN’s Anderson Cooper that there is “no question” that Trump is a racist.
