Bravo’s Andy Cohen Is A Drunk Megalomaniac On SNL

Between the C-SPAN sketch, “The Manuel Ortiz Talk Show,” the Santa Barbara news anchors sketch, and this parody of “What What Happens Live,” most of the sketches tonight felt the same. Because they were the same! This bit was anchored by Taran Killam as Andy Cohen, a more maniacal, self-obsessed and over the top version than the one usually seen on the late night talk show. He chatted with two of the “Shahs of Sunset,” played by Nasim Pedrad and Sofia Vergara, the Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who he met in the Hamptons, and some kind of rent boy played by Andy Samberg, who was in charge of mixing the drinks.

Killam’s Andy Cohen impression was a good one, and the guests were intermittently amusing, but the sketch became much funnier when they aired a clip for “Tabatha Takes Over,” featuring Kristen Wiig’s insane, glottal Tabatha Coffey impression. Cohen also took the opportunity to announce that the Archbishop would be getting his own show, “Tutu Hot Tutu Handle,” and plug the following night’s guest — a PA from “It’s A Brad, Brad World” and “literary recluse Thomas Pynchon.” That, thankfully, was the end of that.
