Famed Chef Anthony Bourdain Dead at 61 in Apparent Suicide
Anthony Bourdain, the celebrity chef and star of CNN’s Parts Unknown, was found dead of suicide in his hotel room in France on Friday, at the age of 61, CNN reported. He had hung himself.
Bourdain was in France to film an episode of Parts Unknown, his Emmy-award winning CNN food show, when his friend and famed chef Eric Ripert found him unresponsive in his hotel room, per CNN.
“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” CNN said in a statement. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
Bourdain started his career as a chef in New York in the 1980s, working at the famed Brasserie Les Halles. He was launched to culinary fame with his 2000 book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly.
Bourdain would go on to embark on a successful career in television, starring in a series of hit food and travel shows, including A Cook’s Tour, No Reservations (2005–2012) and since 2013, Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown, on CNN.
