Belichick ‘Shocked’ by #Ballghazi: ‘I Have No Explanation for What Happened’

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick told the press Thursday morning he was “shocked” by an NFL investigation that accused his team of delating game balls during their whomping of the Indianapolis Colts last weekend, an illegal change that may have made the balls easier to throw and catch.

“I was shocked to learn of the news reports about the footballs,” Belichick said. “I was completely unaware of any of this until Monday morning.”

Belichick repeated “I have no explanation for what happened” multiple times, including in response to just about every question asked of him following his statement. He repeatedly referred questions about specifics to the NFL, an organization renowned for its transparency and sense of urgency.

Belichick claiming general ignorance of how game balls are prepared, and said he often makes players practice with balls in poor conditions. “Anytime the players complain about the quality of the balls, I make them worse and that stops the complaining,” Belichick said, in perhaps the most Belichick sentence ever.

Quarterback Tom Brady will address the press at 4 this afternoon. Mediaite will be covering it live.
