Military Jets Escort Passenger Jet To JFK Airport UPDATE

Fox News’ Trace Gallagher just reported that two F-15 military jets are currently escorting a commercial passenger airliner coming in from Canadian airspace into JFK airport. The flight is reported to have originated in Yemen, laid over in United Arab Emirates and is now entering American airspace. This, on a day when there may have been a possible terrorist attempt, or trial run, that has lead to a number quarantined airplanes and inspections of numerous cargo planes around the country.

Further reports have revealed greater context: there was a package on this flight that concerned officials leading to the military escort. Still more questions and fewer answers.

AP is reporting now that there are explosive materials on that plane:

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) – An official UAE security source says a suspicious device discovered in an air cargo shipment in Dubai that was headed for the U.S. contained explosive materials.

The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said the “explosive device” was found Friday in a courier company’s regional hub and originated in a shipment from Yemen.

The source says there has been “close cooperation between several intelligence and security agencies around the world following the discovery of shipments … containing an explosive device originating in Yemen.”

The person says an investigation is under way.
