CBS News’ John Miller Officially Re-Joining NYPD

John Miller, who has spent the last forty years moving back in forth between careers in journalism and law enforcement, will be officially rejoining the New York Police Department a high-level counter-terrorism role. Miller made the announcement on WCBS Thursday afternoon.

Miller, who faced criticism for a recent 60 Minutes report that many thought was too soft on the NSA, served as the chief spokesperson for the NYPD from 1994-1995 after twenty years as a local journalist in New York City. He then moved to ABC News for seven years before leaving to join the Los Angeles Police Department, followed by a stint as Assistant Director for Public Affairs at the FBI.

“If you take the L.A. experience, we had a pretty effective shop there, I think if you look at the New York experience they have, certainly it is the most complex and forward-leaning counterterrorism operation of any police department in the world, so it will be a great challenge that I will have to rise to,” Miller said of his new role.

CBS News president David Rhodes told Capital New York that Miller will continue to appear on CBS as an NYPD official, with a planned appearance during his first week with the department on January 6th. “He will be ‘John Miller, NYPD,’ and we will be transparent with the audience with what his role is,” Rhodes said.
