CBS Reporter Lara Logan: “U.S. Is Failing To Deal” With The Terrorism Reality

Before Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer had time to share his cheerful holiday poem, CBS Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent Lara Logan provided viewers with a sobering reality about the ongoing war on terror. In addition to saying everyone knows Osama bin Laden is in Pakistan, she also claimed most other terrorist leaders are hiding out there as well, and displayed disappointment with U.S. foreign policy for not more aggressively handling the situation.

Logan revealed:

Recently I learned that not only does the U.S. know where these [terrorists] are inside Pakistan . . . but we have information right down to their phone numbers. So the Afghans have this information, the U.S. has it, and the Pakistanis have it, but no one’s acting on it. . . . Vast majority of terrorist leaders that threaten the United States today are located inside Pakistan, and the U.S. is failing to deal with that.

It doesn’t seem Logan is advocating for a full-scale invasion of Pakistan, but merely asserts that the U.S. has placed too much trust in Pakistan and ultimately sheds light on the growing and legitimate concern that if the terrorists are really in Pakistan, then why is the current military stategy so focused on Afghanistan? Regardless of the answer, it’s refreshing to hear talk of such serious issues from the perspective of a war correspondent, which seems increasingly rare these days on the Sunday morning political affairs shows.
