Cleveland Kidnapping Victim Michelle Knight Driven to Tears on CNN
A California man was recently arrested on charges that he abducted a 15-year-old girl and held her captive for decade. On Friday, CNN invited Michelle Knight, the victim of Cleveland kidnapper to discuss the alleged kidnappers defense, which centers into calling the credibility of his alleged kidnapping victim into question. Knight broke down in tears while apparently recalling her own experiences as a victim of a kidnapper.
“People shouldn’t say anything about what they can’t explain,” Knight said on CNN’s New Day. “Because it may be difficult for that woman – that woman who went through this.”
“It’s very hard for her when people are saying bad things about her and saying that she’s lying. You don’t know what went through her head,” she added, her voice cracking with emotion. “You don’t know what that dude was doing to her.”
She said that tactics like those used by the defense in this case make kidnapping victims not want to come forward. Overcome by emotion at this point, Knight stopped the interview.
Later, she came back and expressed her support for the alleged kidnapping victim and advised her detractors to ignore those who insist she is not credible.
Knight spent years being brutally beaten and raped by her captor, Ariel Castro, in his Cleveland home. She was reportedly impregnated by Castro at least five times and punched in the stomach until she miscarried the fetus.
