CNN Blasts Ted Cruz in Statement: ‘Astonishing’ He ‘Continues to Knowingly Mislead’

Screen Shot 2016-02-07 at 12.59.50 PMSenator Ted Cruz (R-TX) was confronted once again Saturday night about his campaign’s underhanded dissemination of the false rumor that Ben Carson was dropping out of the race, even as Iowans caucused to decide their candidate. Cruz again tried to blame CNN for his campaign’s actions, but Carson himself called out the falsehood:

“In fact the timeline indicates that initial tweet was followed by another one within one minute that clarified that I was not dropping out, so, what happened to that one, it is unclear. But the bottom line is, we can see what happened, everybody can see what happened and you can make your own judgment.”

Now, CNN has released an official statement of its own blasting Cruz for continuing to lie about the network’s reporting, rather than own up to what his campaign did:

In a statement out Saturday night, CNN responded, “What Senator Cruz said tonight in the debate is categorically false. CNN never corrected its reporting because CNN never had anything to correct. The Cruz campaign’s actions the night of the Iowa caucuses had nothing to do with CNN’s reporting. The fact that Senator Cruz continues to knowingly mislead the voters about this is astonishing.”

Despite clear evidence that the Cruz campaign is lying about CNN’s reporting, Cruz is still trying to sell the fiction, and with Republican attitudes toward the media being what they are, it’s unlikely CNN’s rebuke will change that.
