Colorado GOP Chair Slams Lauren Boebert For Switching Districts: ‘She Has A Serious Challenge’
Colorado Republican Party chairman Dave Williams slammed Rep. Lauren Boebert (CO-R) for switching to a less competitive district during an interview on CNN.
On Wednesday, the conservative firebrand announced she would not run for reelection in Colorado’s 3rd District and would instead seek the more conservative 4th District for the upcoming election. She cited a “pretty difficult year” filled with “personal mistakes” as her reasoning.
Williams was asked about Boebert’s decision during an interview with CNN anchor Brianna Keilar where he noted “from a party perspective we certainly don’t think it was the best move.”
KEILAR: We have to ask you about Lauren Boebert making this announcement that she is not going to seek reelection in her district, that she’s going to seek it in a district on the other side of the state, the 4th District. Are Coloradans cool with that kind of thing, someone who isn’t from their district representing them?
WILLIAMS: From a party perspective, we certainly don’t think it was the best move. We felt that she was best suited for Congressional District three and that she was in the best position to win reelection and retain that for Republicans. Time will tell whether or not we’re right, but I think she’s got a serious challenge on her hands, trying to explain to the voters of CD 4 why she thought it was necessary to leave CD 3 and have a better chance at keeping her seat in Congress. It’s a it’s kind of a problematic proposition, but it’s again, it’s something for the voters to decide.
Colorado’s 4th district, which the New York Times describes as “significantly more conservative than the Third,” has an opening due to Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) announcing his retirement last month.
