Corey Lewandowski: James Comey is ‘Part of the Deep State’ Who Leaked Repeatedly to Derail Trump
Corey Lewandowski gave a contentious interview on Today‘s Friday show, and ripped into former FBI director James Comey over the political machinations that played into his testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
The former Trump campaign manager began by pushing back on what Comey said about how the president is a “liar” who defamed him and the FBI ever since he was fired from his position. The panel also discussed what Comey said about how he arranged for his personal memos about his interactions with Trump to be released to the media through a proxy.
Lewandowski slammed the former FBI director for his actions, though he approvingly noted what Comey said about how Trump was not directly being investigated for potential collusion with Russia. Savannah Guthrie challenged Lewandowski about selectively deciding which parts of Comey’s testimony were truthful or not, though the former Trump operative pushed back further by saying that the only thing Comey was truthful about was that Trump was not being investigated himself.
Lewondwoski also defended Trump citing the “subjective” interpretations regarding how the president asked Comey for his loyalty, and supposedly pressured him to end the Michael Flynn investigation.
Guthrie eventually asked Lewandowski about whether Trump would release the “tapes” he supposedly has, especially now that Comey has given testimony and signaled that he wants those tapes out in the open. Lewandowski said that whether Trump has tapes or not “Jim Comey’s credibility is at about zero right now,” and Trump is still not under a direct investigation.
As the panel continued to discuss Comey’s actions and their aftermath, Lewandowski continued to tear into him over his continued attempts to manipulate Washington. He also opined that Comey orchestrated media leaks in order to arrange for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to face pressure to the point where he would have to recuse himself from the investigations into Russia
“He’s part of the Deep State,” Lewandowski declared. It would seem that the president is on the same page as his old surrogate, since Trump tweeted much the same this morning.
