Daily Show Mocks Trump Over Clumsy Reaction to Ghislaine Maxwell Pardon Question
The Daily Show’s Josh Johnson roasted President Donald Trump over his answer to a question about pardoning convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell and the fact that he name-dropped Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs in his response.
Trump was asked this week about a possible pardon for Maxwell, who is serving 20 years for sex trafficking. She recently received a prison transfer after speaking with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche about her long relationship with fellow convicted sex predator Jeffrey Epstein.
The meetings between Blanche and Maxwell followed the FBI and DOJ riling up critics by claiming in a memo that Epstein committed suicide and that he did not sex traffic for high-profile friends despite reports of the contrary from victims.
“I haven’t heard the name in so long,” Trump said when asked about Maxwell, adding that he’ll “have to look into it.”
The president then noted that Combs has also asked for a pardon. The rapper and music mogul was recently sentenced to just over four years on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
Trump referred to Combs as “Puff Daddy” when noting he’s also seeking a pardon.
“Wait, so you don’t remember Ghislaine, but you remember that we used to call Diddy ‘Puff Daddy’? That was nine names ago!” Johnson said.
He added, “All you had to do was mention someone else who was not convicted of sex crimes — which is most people — and you chose Diddy. And I want to remind everyone, we were gathered here to talk about a road in Alaska.”
Johnson knocked the president for the dodge and apparent unfamiliarity with Maxwell’s name, showing clips of Trump discussing Maxwell as recently as July and August.
“I haven’t heard the name in so long?” Johnson said. “She’s not asking you about the Baha Men. You’re over here being like, ‘Who, who, who, who?'”
