Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper Gets Trump Assassination Attempt Theories from Hardcore MAGA Supporters

The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper attended a recent rally for Donald Trump and listened to a wide variety of theories regarding the shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania.

During the segment — which aired on Monday’s episode of The Daily Show — Klepper asked Trump supporters how they felt about the official reports on the shooting. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was reportedly a registered Republican.

Supporters of the former president, however, aren’t buying that.

“I think that was a planned job,” said one man wearing a t-shirt depicting Trump with his middle fingers raised. “Anybody with any common sense knows that was a planned job.”

When Klepper asked who planned it, the man paused for a moment before landing on, “The Dems.”

“Obama is involved in this,” the man added. “I think that he surely knew about it.”

Some believed it was an inside job. Others blamed “the left” and “the deep state” for the shooting. When a pair of women insisted the government was behind it, Klepper joked that alleged culprits could simply “poison the Big Mac” instead of planning of shooting.

Another woman believed the shooter was specifically chosen to fit the profile of typical Trump supporter.

KLEPPER: Does it surprise you to hear that it was a disgruntled, White guy Republican gun nut?

WOMAN: No, because you know what? We’ll never know why he was picked.

KLEPPER: It’s kind of the perfect cover.

WOMAN: Exactly! They could’ve gotten a disgruntled Black guy, and I’m not — I have no problem — and they could’ve gotten a disgruntled Black female; but no, they picked the disgruntled White kid.

KLEPPER: A disgruntled White guy who’s into guns at a Trump rally. It’s like a ‘Where’s Waldo’ situation, right? It’s like, ‘Oh my God, who doesn’t fit that profile?’
