Dan Abrams On Trump’s Legal Battle With Stormy: He ‘Could Have An Argument Against Her’
It may be easy to dismiss President Donald Trump‘s case against porn star Stormy Daniels on the basis of… well, his getting involved. But legally, he may have a point.
ABC News Chief Legal Analyst and Mediaite founder Dan Abrams told David Muir on Good Morning America that Trump may have a leg to stand on vis-à-vis the deal his lawyers made with Daniels.
“Don’t minimize the possibility that Trump and his team could have an argument against her,” Abrams said. “There was a deal in place. You can say it was invalid, but they had a contract that she wouldn’t talk about this.”
“Does that mean he’s going to win millions of dollars against her? Not necessarily. But don’t immediately dismiss this. This is going to be a long, it seems like, protracted fight,” he added.
Abrams also commented on reports that Trump wants to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, and the factors that will likely prevent him from doing so.
“It’s is getting under [Trump’s] skin,” Abrams said of the investigation, dismissing the president’s attempts to tie the firing of Andrew McCabe to the Mueller probe.
“The Mueller investigation should have nothing to do with the McCabe firing. But you see now the president trying to lump them together.”
“One has nothing to do with the other,” Abrams added, before arguing that he doesn’t think Trump will attempt to fire Mueller.
“This is mostly saber rattling on the part of the president, on the part of his lawyer, et cetera,” he continued. “The impact would be seismic if he were to fire Robert Mueller. The result, by the way, would be political, not legal, and as a result, I think it’s not going to happen anytime soon.”
