David Brooks ‘Totally Pro-Obama’ for Calling Out Christian ‘Self-Righteousness’

New York Times columnist David Brooks said on Meet the Press yesterday he’s “totally pro-Obama” in how President Obama warned Christians not to get on their “high horse” over Muslim terrorists because of all the horrible things done in the name of Christianity.

Brooks said Obama was preaching a “gospel of humility” that Washington needs a lot more of. He told Chuck Todd, “This is exactly the moment you want to say this. We’re at most the moral danger to ourselves when we’re caught up in a righteous fervor against an evil foe which is what we have.”

Brooks also warned about Christian “self-righteousness,” echoing what the White House had to say in defense of the president’s remarks.

This was in stark contrast to how MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell panned Obama’s remarks in the same segment, saying it’s a really bad idea to be using the word “crusades” in any context.
