Ed Schultz: ‘What About Disarming the Police’ in Ferguson?

Ed Schultz threw out a pretty radical idea on his MSNBC show today: what if the Ferguson police were just disarmed?

There has been much discussion about how to bring about reform in Ferguson. As of today, the city manager and police chief have resigned, and Eric Holder did not rule out dismantling the Ferguson police department entirely.

But Schultz today threw out an idea that he acknowledged “the right wing’s gonna think I’m crazy for thinking”:

“What about disarming the police? What about just having them carry nightsticks and the authority to arrest?”

He admitted it would take a “brave person” to do that, but said there are places where officers don’t carry guns and this might be a piece of reform that’s sorely needed.
