‘Elon, Stay in Your Lane!’ Trump Awkwardly Plays Peacemaker Between Musk and Rubio in Wild SNL Cold Open

Days after the reported closed-door blowout between Elon Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Saturday Night Live opened with a wild sketch showing Trump trying to keep the peace between his bickering underlings.

The 6-minute long cold open kicked off with Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) chiding Rubio for mixing it up with the president’s senior advisor.

“I know you’re under a lot of stress, but I can’t have you fighting with Elon, OK?” Trump said. “I need you to be my good little Marco.”

SNL went after Rubio (played by Marcello Hernández) by depicting him, in Saturday’s sketch, as an overeager suck-up.

“Mr. Trump, if you think I’m going to stand here and let you call me that, you’re right,” Rubio said.

The sketch also portrayed Rubio as a man who very much regretted his decision to work for Trump. At one point, Trump went on a nonsensical rant about wanting to take over Thailand because he’s been watching The White Lotus, and Rubio was shown grimacing as the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme music played over the shot.

Enter Elon Musk — once again played by famed SNL alum Mike Myers.

“Hi, it’s me, tech support!” Musk said. “Just kidding!”

Trump then tried to iron out the differences between the two — but Musk was focused on wisecracks.

“Now, look, I can’t have you two at each other’s throats, OK?” Trump said. “After all, I have a perfect record. Everyone who’s ever worked for me has left on good terms, and then gone on to write a book called ‘The Man Who Ruined Everything.’ So you two need to start acting like mature adults, OK? So let’s begin with Marco.”

“Polo!” Musk said.

“No, Elon, I’m trying to talk to Marco,” Trump said.

“Polo!” Musk said again.

The sketch concluded by showing Trump trying — and failing — to contain Musk.

“Headlines from the meeting, one, America’s doing bad guy now,” Trump said. “Two, Marco, get your budget under control. And three, Elon, stay in your lane. You’re not the boss.”

“But I paid you $300 million,” Musk said.

“And that’s why you’re the boss,” Trump said — pulling a quick about-face.
