Ex-RNC Chair Slams ‘Rogue President’ Trump’s ‘Juvenile’ Vendetta Against James Comey

Ex-RNC chair Michael Steele torched “insecure” President Donald Trump’s “juvenile” push to humiliate former FBI director James Comey with a public “perp walk” and “weaponized” charges.

Steele, now an MSNBC anchor, said late Friday that the charges against the former FBI director accusing him of making false statements and obstructing justice in a Senate testimony reek of political vengeance.

Comey has long been a fixation for Trump, who he blames for refusing to quash the Russia probe early in his presidency.

On Friday it was reported that one FBI agent was sidelined after refusing to carry out the White House’s demand for a televised walk of shame.

Reflecting on the move, The Weeknight panel on MSNBC slammed the Trump administration’s pursuit of Comey as a petty pursuit of retribution at the expense of justice.

“You know, I’m not a fan of James Comey because of what happened in ‘16. Okay?” Steele began. “That’s then. But the reality of it is you don’t want the system ever to be weaponized against anyone, regardless of what they may have done in the past or what you may have thought of their actions in the past.”

He warned that the spectacle spoke to something far more corrosive and called for vigilance: “What we need to stay focused on right now, folks, is what’s happening to your neighbors, your families, your community, your country by a rogue president and a rogue administration of bad actors who don’t give a damn about the Constitution.”

For Steele, the central question is not about Comey’s past but about President Trump’s present.

“It’s happening because one man is so insecure and he’s so juvenile in his thinking that this is the only way he can. He can’t move on from it. And we get caught up in it,” he concluded.
