Ex-Trump Organization CFO Sentenced to Five Months In Jail For Lying Under Oath

Allen Weisselberg, the former CFO of the Trump organization, was sentenced to five months in jail on Wednesday after pleading guilty to perjury during Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial, in which he too was found liable for the widespread fraud.

Weisselberg showed up to court in casual attire, apparently ready to be remanded into custody and taken to Rikers. “So when Allen Weisselberg arrived at court this morning, you could tell how the rest of the morning was going to go,” nnoted MSNBC’s Lisa’s Rubin, adding:

And that’s because he showed up in what can only be described as athleisure … When a defendant shows up at his sentencing and something other than a suit for court, that’s because he’s expecting to be immediately remanded or in other words, taken into custody. And that’s indeed what happened with Allen Weisselberg.

The whole proceeding lasted a matter of minutes, and as soon as Allen Weisselberg told the judge he had nothing to say, the DA said that they weren’t going to deviate from the promised five months in the plea agreement. Allen Weisselberg was immediately handcuffed by two members of the court officers here and taken through a back entrance where presumably he was placed in the car and taken into custody.

Judge Laurie Peterson asked Weisselberg if he had anything to say in his defense during the hearing to which Weisselberg replied, “No, your honor.”

DA Alvin Bragg alleged that Weisselberg “committing perjury in a deposition and during testimony in Trump’s trial, including allegedly lying when he said in July 2020 that he learned Trump’s triplex apartment had been overvalued from a Forbes report, but really knew about it well beforehand,” reported NBC News.

Weisselberg will be a central figure in Trump’s upcoming porn star hush money trial, but will not testify as part of his current plea deal for the perjury charge.
