Fox & Friends Struggles To Explain Abortion Rights Election Results: ‘A Majority of Americans Don’t Like the Rape and Incest Thing’
Fox & Friends was introspective on the Republican Party’s political challenges coming from the abortion rights issue in light of Tuesday’s off-year election results.
After lamenting the “epic failure” Governor Glenn Youngkin observed in Virginia, the Fox News morning show took time on Wednesday to look at the abortion rights victories that were seen across the country. Ainsley Earhardt said she was “surprised” voters shut down Youngkin’s chances to push through a 15-week abortion ban, and Brian Kilmeade looked at how Daniel Cameron (R) struggled to deal with tough questions on abortion.
“In Kentucky, they were running an ad with a 12-year-old girl saying I got pregnant from incest, and Daniel Cameron would make me have the baby,” Kilmeade explained. “The Cameron camp never answered that ad. There was another one with the DA saying a nine-year-old, same situation, Daniel Cameron, would make me go through with it, and he had no answer for it.”
When Lawrence Jones joined his colleagues to break down the election fallout, Steve Doocy noted the observable polling difference when voters are asked about candidates versus when they’re asked about abortion and other specific topics. When asked what Republicans have to do with their abortion messaging, Jones suggested, “You gotta talk directly to the people; you gotta give and take on some issues.”
“It looks like a majority of Americans don’t like the rape and incest thing,” he continued. “Donald Trump got a lot of pushback from the Republican base that he wasn’t strong enough even though he helped overturn Roe v. Wade with his appointment of judges. But it looks like he’s in the majority when it comes to American voters, and he’s not getting a ding when it comes to the national polling.”
