Fox News’ Shannon Bream: I’ve Heard Of Other Allegations Against Tom Brokaw
After news broke late Thursday evening that veteran NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw was accused of sexual misconduct, Shannon Bream of Fox News revealed his behavior was an open secret in the industry.
Two women have come forward with allegations against Brokaw. One of them, former NBC News correspondent Linda Vester, claims Brokaw “physically tried to force her to kiss him on two separate occasions, groped her in a NBC conference room and showed up at her hotel room uninvited.” The other woman has chosen to remain anonymous.
MediaBuzz host Howard Kurtz told Bream that of the 25 years he has covered Brokaw’s career, he had never “heard a whisper or rumor” about any inappropriate behavior and went on to note that these allegations surfaced on the same day that icon Bill Cosby was convicted of sexual assault and acknowledged that NBC “has a problem with its culture” (he quickly noted that Fox News had a similar problem).
While Kurtz himself was unaware of Brokaw’s alleged behavior, Bream appears to have been in the know.
“Being in this business and knowing plenty of other women in this business, I have heard of other similar allegations against Brokaw,” Bream told Kurtz. “So it’ll be interesting to see what comes of this.”
Bream later mentioned that it’s “never fun” when your employer is going through a scandal like Brokaw’s.
“Everybody’s taking a good internal look at the way they do things and maybe making changes as I know we have here,” Bream added.
