Fox’s Bo Dietl: Maybe Freddie Gray ‘Slipped and Fell’ While Being Chased by Cops

While saying numerous times that all involved should wait for more information, Fox News contributor and former NYPD detective Bo Dietl aired several theories on how Freddie Gray obtained his injuries, suggesting to Fox & Friends that he was on drugs and could have tripped and hurt himself while being chased by police.

“Do you think, possibly when the cops were chasing him and he was trying to get away, he could have slipped and fallen and he made an injury?” Dietl posed. “By going into the van there, he made the injury worse. That could have very well happened by him banging his head.”

Dietl’s comments follow a report by the Washington Post that the prisoner in the van with Gray told Baltimore Police he was intentionally trying to injure himself. The prisoner was behind a partition and couldn’t see Gray; some are already questioning the report as inconsistent with the presented evidence.

Dietl recalled prisoners he’d arrested who banged their heads against bars until they bled. “They were on drugs,” Dietl said. “I’m hoping they did toxicology on [Gray] when they took him into the hospital because I really feel mentally he was not really with it and possibly he was on drugs.”

Dietl added that it was irresponsible for protesters to act on incomplete information.
