Gavin Newsom Dares ‘Tough Guy’ Tom Homan to ‘Arrest’ Him: ‘Let’s Just Get It Over With’

California Governor Gavin Newsom issued a defiant challenge to Trump border czar Tom Homan to “arrest me” as he raged at President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy the National Guard as “a manufactured crisis” that “created and exacerbated” the conditions in Los Angeles.

The governor’s remarks came after Homan was asked on Saturday whether his threat to arrest those obstructing ICE operations applied to Newsom or Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass.

“I’ll say it about anybody,” Homan responded. “You cross that line, it’s a felony to knowingly harbor and conceal an illegal alien. It’s a felony to impede law enforcement doing their job.”

In response, Newsom blasted Homan in a furious interview with NBC News journalist Jacob Soboroff while accusing the Trump administration was exhibiting “authoritarian tendencies” and using federal power as a political weapon.

“He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? He knows where to find me,” Newsom began, visibly angry.

He continued: “But you know what? Let your hands off 4-year-old girls that are trying to get educated. Let your hands off these poor people. They’re just trying to live their lives, man. Trying to live their lives, paying their taxes. Been here for 10 years. The fear, the horror.”

Rounding again on Homan, he added: “The hell is this guy? Come after me. Arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy. You know, I don’t give a damn, but I care about my community. I care about this community. The hell are they doing? These guys need to grow up. They need to stop, and we need to push back. And I’m sorry to be so clear, but that kind of bloviating is exhausting. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go.”

Newsom went on to reveal that California plans to file a lawsuit Monday against the Trump administration over what he called an “illegal, immoral, unconstitutional” federal takeover of the state’s National Guard.

“They had to coordinate with the governor of the state,” Newsom said. “They never coordinated with the governor of the state.” He made clear the deployment had neither been requested nor approved by Sacramento.

“This is about authoritarian tendencies. This is about command and control. This is about power. This is about ego,” he added.
