‘Get a Real Job’: AOC Responds to Outkick Host Who Challenged Her to a Debate

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) had a blunt response to Outkick host Riley Gaines — who challenged her to a political debate.

Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer, notched some notoriety after she spoke out against allowing transgender women to compete in women’s sports. At the 2022 NCAA championships, Gaines finished tied for fifth in the 200-meter freestyle with Lia Thomas, a trans woman. Since then, Gaines has made innumerable media appearances on conservative media, has written a book, and is a podcast host on OutKick, which is owned by Fox.

On Monday’s edition of The Ingraham Angle on Fox News, Laura Ingraham pointed to a tweet from Ocasio-Cortez in which the lawmaker dunked on Gaines’ fifth-place finish. Gaines had tweeted a photo of AOC, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and New York Democratic mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani with the words, “We’re being destroyed from within.”

Ocasio-Cortez quote-tweeted the post and wrote, “Maybe if you channeled all this anger into swimming faster you wouldn’t have come in fifth.”

“Wow,” Ingraham reacted. “I’m not sure what she did in sports, but your reaction to her petty tweet.”

“Look, her position is morally bankrupt and politically foolish,” Gaines replied. “For clarity, Laura, yes, I finished fifth in the nation at the Division I national championship, tying with a six-foot-four man who ranked 462nd in the men’s division the year prior. It was like a South Park episode, but real life.”

Gaines then challenged AOC to a debate.

“I want to honestly challenge AOC to a debate,” she said. “She can defend socialism. I will defend capitalism. She can defend removing God. I will defend embracing a biblical worldview. She can defend child sacrifice. I will defend the sanctity of life. Any of the radical and insane Democratic policies and platform they stand for, I will debate the opposite. I’m challenging AOC to it here.”

Shortly after Gaines issued the challenge, the congresswoman responded by quote-tweeting a post that read, “Gaines: I want to challenge AOC to a debate,” to which the lawmaker replied, “And I would like to challenge this person to get a real job.”
