GOP Rep.: White House Extremism Summit More of a ‘Psychotherapy Session’
Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, dismissed President Barack Obama‘s White House summit to counter violent extremism, calling it a “psychotherapy session.”
McCaul stressed the importance of “defining the enemy to defeat the enemy,” thus clearly stating America is “at war” with radical Islam. He accused President Obama of perpetuating a “false narrative” and relying solely on political correctness as to not offend the Muslim world.
“It’s interesting to note at this conference, it was a bit of a psychotherapy session without any substance or any solutions that came out of it,” McCaul said on America’s Newsroom Friday morning. “The FBI wasn’t even invited to speak, and the military took a back seat.”
Some Democrats, including Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), expressed similar sentiments, saying the extremism summit is just a “diversion away from the actual threat” and a “distraction” from the larger issue of Islamic extremism. President Obama, though, said at the summit that calling ISIS “Islamic” would grant them “legitimacy.”
