Guess Who’s the Most Popular Choice to Replace Jon Stewart

Despondent over the job nobody appears to want, Quinnipiac took to the streets and polled the American public on one of the most pressing matters bearing down on the electorate: who should replace Jon Stewart?!?!?!

Tina Fey took the top prize, with 19% choosing the ex-30 Rock star to helm The Daily Show. In an indication of just how thin the bench is, Fox News in-house funny man Dennis Miller took 16%, followed by John Oliver, Craig Ferguson, Brian Williams (who wrote this question?), and Chelsea Handler, in order.

Not surprisingly, there were age, gender, and ideological breakdowns at play, with younger women and Democrats leaning toward Fey and older Republican men toward Miller.

Don’t read too much into this poll: that Miller, a right-wing commentator last funny about fifteen years ago, was even part of the survey about a liberal show aimed at the youths was suspect. The results would likely look significantly different if it were taken among The Daily Show’s actual audience, and included less-obvious choices like Jessica Williams.

Also included in the poll: a plurality believe NBC News should allow suspended anchor Brian Williams to eventually return to his evening newscast, while there was an even split on whether Bill O’Reilly should be punished for his own alleged fabrications, versus those who believed he should continue with his Fox News opinion show.
