Gunman Identified in Columbia Mall Shooting That Left 3 Dead
The gunman in Saturday’s shooting at the Columbia Mall in Maryland has been identified as 19-year-old Darion Marcus Aguilar, a nearby resident, authorities announced Sunday morning.
Aguilar opened fire in the mall Saturday afternoon, killing two other people before reportedly killing himself; police also say he was carrying crude explosives. The shooter had identification on him, but police had initially feared that his body may have been booby-trapped.
Howard County Police Chief Bill McMahon reported Sunday morning that authorities have not yet discovered any connection between the shooter and the victims. Police served a search warrant to Aguilar’s home and seized ammunition and computers, and will investigate the materials in hopes of establishing a motive.
