Humbled President Obama’s Complete Remarks On ‘Tough Election’
In his opening statement to the press, President Obama offered his thoughts on the bad night his party had last night. “Some election nights are more fun than others,” he told the media. “Some are exhilarating. Some are humbling.” We can only guess which adjective he applies to last night.
Obama also acknowledged that last night’s Republican gains won’t end the political wrangling. “We just had a tough election,” he understated. “We will have another in 2012.”
Yet he stressed the need for both parties to work together, noting that America’s complex problems can’t be solved by “bumper sticker slogans,” but by both sides of the aisle being able to work together. He name-checked Rep. John Boehner and Sen. Mitch McConnell to help work on such bipartisanship, a feat that would certainly be exhilarating—if it happens.
