‘I Cannot Understand a Word She’s Saying’: Trump Frustrated by Reporter With ‘Beautiful Accent’

President Donald Trump became visibly annoyed on Thursday with a French reporter, who, he nonetheless said, has “a beautiful accent.”

The reporter’s question centered on the Israeli Knesset, which on Wednesday voted for a symbolic measure that gave preliminary approval to apply Israeli law in the West Bank, which is Palestinian territory. That vote irked several Trump administration officials, who said it undermines a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that Trump had worked to broker. Vice President JD Vance deemed the vote a “very stupid political stunt.”

“Yesterday, there was a vote at the Knesset on annexing the West Bank,” the reporter told Trump. “Do you see it as a challenge to your peace efforts?”

“Could you say that louder, please?” the president asked.

“Yes, yesterday, there was a vote at the Knesset in Israel on annexing the West Bank,” she reiterated. “Do you see it as a challenge to your peace efforts?”

At that point, Trump turned to Attorney General Pam Bondi and said, “Will you answer that, please? Because I cannot understand a word she’s saying.”

Before Bondi could say anything, the president turned back to the reporter and inquired, “Where are you from?”

“I’m from France,” she replied.

“You’re from France,” Trump said. “Beautiful accent, but we can’t understand what you’re saying.”

Bondi then informed the president that the question was about Israel and the West Bank.

“The West Bank?” Trump said. “Don’t worry about the West Bank. Israel’s not gonna do anything with the West Bank, ok? Don’t worry about it. Is that your question? They’re not gonna do anything with the West Bank. Don’t worry about it. Israel’s doing very well. They’re not gonna do anything with it.”

In February, Trump had a similar run-in with a member of the international press, telling the journalist at a press conference, “I can’t understand a word he’s saying.”
