‘I Have a Deal!’ Trump Commerce Secretary Tells CNBC He’s Locked In a Trade Pact — But Won’t Say With Who

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick claimed Tuesday that he has a trade deal done — but he refused to reveal which country it was.

Lutnick appeared on Power Lunch for a sit-down interview with Brian Sullivan. It was held at the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) factory in Arizona, where construction was underway hours after the company received the permits to do so.

The 20-minute conversation touched on factory construction, tariffs, automation, and a host of other pressing matters on the economy. At one point, Sullivan asked when President Donald Trump’s administration would announce trade deals with other countries. Since his 90-day tariff pause, Trump and other cabinet members have insisted that dozens of countries have been eager to negotiate.

In response, Lutnick revealed that at least one deal is “done.”

“Now here’s the point: I have a deal!” Lutnick said. “Done, done, done, done. But I need to wait for their prime minister and their parliament to give its approval, which I expect shortly.”

Sullivan asked which country he was referring to, but Lutnick exclaimed that he wouldn’t reveal it because he’ll leave that to the president.

“But it’s just you and me here!” Sullivan joked. “And a couple million people, hopefully, watching.”

Lutnick then added that there also “country after country” with which the U.S. is “working through the details.”
