Is This The Greatest Emmy Acceptance Speech Ever?

After Merritt Wever gave a… uhh, terse… speech for her winning the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, the Internet (and host Neil Patrick Harris) declared it “the greatest acceptance speech ever.”

Wever won the award for her role as Zoey Barkow in the Showtime dark comedy Nurse Jackie. In her category, she was up against more well-known comedic actresses like 30 Rock‘s Jane Krakowski, Modern Family‘s Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara. And so Wever’s victory came as a stunner to many, apparently including herself.

When she approached the microphone to give her speech, she clearly looked nervous. And here’s all she said: “Thank you so much. Um. Thank you so much. Um, I gotta go. Bye.”

After commercial break, when the evening’s host Harris returned to the podium, he officially declared her speech “the greatest ever” and wished all other winners the best of luck competing with that.
