It ‘Took About 5 Hours’ for NYC Joint to Make This Pope Pizza
To celebrate Pope Francis‘ arrival in New York City on Thursday, a local pizza shop decided to make a very special pie for the pontiff.
As Gawker points out, WABC reported on Greenwich Village man Tony Salihaj special cheezy, meaty creation for the Pope’s visit. The pie, which took the Bleeker Street Pizza chef five hours to make, is “something special.”
“We decided to make an image of him the best we can,” Salihaj told WABC. “We’re pizza men we’re not artists.”
Along with a few friends, Salihaj put the special pie together with mozzarella, ricotta, tomatoes, anchovies and peppers. Five hours later, the initial experiment was complete.
Pope Francis will likely never feast his eyes (nor his stomach) on Salihaj’s creation, unless he sees it on a local news report. Even so, Bleeker Street Pizza customers really, really want their own Pope pizza as it’s in high demand.
