Jake Tapper Decries Trump For Ignoring Climate Report: ‘The Consequences are Literally Life and Death’

CNN’s Jake Tapper kicked off his show on Monday by picking apart President Donald Trump‘s denial of his own government’s findings in a major report on climate change.

During a White House press scrum earlier in the day, Trump told reporters that he doesn’t believe the 13 federal agencies behind the new report on the dire economic/environmental impact climate change will have in the next 100 years.

As Tapper covered the news, he dryly noted that Trump has contradicted experts on the issues many times before, even when it might mean the difference between life and death for some people:

“Part of a pattern that you’re familiar with, I’m sure, where the president disregards facts in favor of whatever reality he finds most politically or personally expedient. ‘Vaccines cause autism.’ That’s false, but he believes it. He saw multiple New Jersey Muslims celebrating 9/11 on television. That’s false, but he believes it. The list goes on and on, but now the consequences are literally life and death, and the president is ignoring the conclusions of the experts who work in his administration.”

Tapper topped off this monologue by comparing Trump’s climate report denial with his recent decision to ignore the CIA’s “high confidence” assessment that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman ordered Jamal Khashoggi to be killed. There was also a comparison to Trump’s reluctance to acknowledge what the intelligence community has said about Russia’s 2016 election-meddling.
