Julian Castro Dismisses Clinton Email Story: ‘Witch Hunt’ by Unpopular Congress

HUD Secretary Julian Castro, rumored to a be a running mate option for putative Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, dismissed suspicions over her use of a private email account and server on State of the Union Sunday morning.

“What you have with these e-mails is basically a witch hunt,” Castro said. “Congressman [Trey] Gowdy (R-SC), who is leading this, is very intentionally trying to manipulate this witch hunt to play politics. That’s unfortunate, and it’s one of the reasons Congress has a 19% approval rating.”

“I think we need to focus on more substantive things,” he continued. “Out there in America, they care about: are you reducing veteran homelessness, providing the the impetus for young people to achieve their dreams…and not whether somebody had e-mails or didn’t have them.”
