Letterman in Final Monologue: ‘Looks Like I’m Not Gonna Get The Tonight Show

dave monologueAfter walking on stage to a standing ovation, David Letterman kicked things off on his final show with a traditional Letterman monologue, complete with plenty of self-deprecating jokes about himself, his long history in late night, and the occasional appearance of jokes.

In fact, he started by saying, “It’s beginning to look like I’m not going to get The Tonight Show.”

Letterman did admit there will be one big change when he leaves late night: whenever he screws up badly, he’ll “have to go on someone else’s show to apologize.”

He showed off “Comedy We Would Have Done Tomorrow,” talked about his plans with band leader Paul Shaffer, and even showed a nice little tribute he got from one of America’s most famous TV families.
