Lindsey Graham on Shutdown: If Trump Doesn’t ‘Break’ Democrats Now, ‘It’s Going to Be a Terrible 2019’
Senator Lindsey Graham may be at odds with President Donald Trump on Syria, but he’s all-in on the fight for a border wall.
Last night, in the hour before the shutdown deadline passed, Graham spoke with Fox News’ Shannon Bream and said, “After the caravan, if you don’t see the need for more border security, you’re blind.”
“I think Democrats hate Trump so much they want him to lose, even though it would be good for the country to work with him on border security,” he continued. “And if he doesn’t break ’em now, it’s going to be a terrible 2019. So Mr. President, dig in.”
Graham praised Trump for being a dealmaker and said Democrats should be working with Trump. If they don’t, he added, they’ll “hear it from the American people in 2020.”
He also told Bream they shouldn’t “act like children.”
Graham went on to reiterate his problems with Trump’s decision to withdraw from Syria, directly appealing to him at one point to reconsider. Bream asked Graham if he would be the next Defense Secretary. Graham immediately said no.
