‘Look What He’s Done With the Economy!’ Hannity Praises Trump on Economy Despite the Fact It Shrank Last Quarter

A contracting economy and underwater poll numbers on the matter were no obstacles for Sean Hannity, who heaped praise on President Donald Trump’s handling of the issue.

Last quarter, U.S. gross domestic product contracted 0.3%, failing to beat economists’ expectations of modest 0.4% growth. A slew of polls in recent weeks show most Americans give Trump negative marks on the economy, including in Texas, which went for Trump by 12 points. Those include a Fox News poll from last month showing 56% of Americans disapprove of the president’s performance on the economy while just 38% approve.

Trump threw markets and businesses for a loop on April 2, when he announced tariffs on virtually all imports. JPMorgan has put the chance of a recession at 60%.

On Friday’s Hannity, the host spoke with fellow Fox News host and presidential daughter-in-law Lara Trump. Hannity said he shudders to think what the U.S. would look like had Trump lost November’s election:

Look at what’s happened. And I can’t even fathom if your father-in-law did not win this last election, what this country would be like. The borders would still be open. The criminals, the known terrorists, the cartel members, gang members, they’d still be pouring in. There would be no talk about peace in Europe or peace in the Middle East. Your father-in-law’s working daily to try and achieve big things.

Look what he’s done with the economy! He’s taken a system that has been accepted institutionally by the D.C. swamp, he’s turned it upside-down on its head. It results in eight trillion in commitments for manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and chips and automobiles. Now, has moved us towards energy dominance. That’ll be a huge, huge profit for every American. We’ll all benefit financially.

Permanent tax cuts, no tax on tips, Social Security, overtime. You know, amazing, amazing accomplishments, and he’s been there a little over 100 days. I can’t imagine the alternative at this point.

None of the “amazing, amazing accomplishments” regarding the “tax cuts, no tax on tips, Social Security, overtime” have been passed by Congress yet. It is unclear if all of these provisions will be enacted.
