Megyn Kelly Panel Thinks Anti-Environmentalist Viral Video Goes Too Far
“If I Wanted America To Fail,” a video produced by a conservative group which challenges environmentalist presumptions about the necessary remedies to ecological challenges, has exploded onto the internet. Megyn Kelly hosted a panel discussion about the video and, while there was broad agreement with the themes of the video, the panel believed that the implication that President Barack Obama wanted America to fail went too far.

The video, produced by a group called Free Market America, launched the video on Earth Day and received over 200,000 views in less than two days. However, the video was quickly taken off Twitter for an unknown reason. Just as quickly, the video was reinstated but the controversy of Twitter’s move could not be muted.
Kelly first asked co-host of The Five, Andrea Tantaros, “do we know why Twitter took it down?”
“We don’t,” said Tantaros. “They’re claiming that so many people went there that it was a spam issue – a technical issue. Now, of course, conspiracy theorists and a lot of the conservative and Republican blogs are saying, ‘well, they took it down because it’s a hard-hitting video.”
“Don’t they post hard-hitting videos all the time on Twitter,” Kelly asked.
“They do,” responded Tantaros.
Kelly said that the contents of the video cannot be ignored when considering why Twitter had it removed. “He [the announcer] seems to be suggesting that – that our current administration might want America to fail, not just because the environmental regulations but he really takes a shot at the Obama administration across the board.”
Tantaros said she loved the video, but she said that if its aim is to rally uncommitted voters to turn out against the Obama administration, it may have missed its mark. She said that making the charge that a conspiracy is underway to destroy America could actually turn off some swing voters.
Julie Roginsky, former communications director for former New Jersey Sen. Jon Corzine, agreed with Tantaros that the conspiratorial message may miss its mark.
“When Democrats used to say that about [President George W.] Bush it would drive me insane, and I’ll say the same thing about Republicans saying this about Obama,” said Roginsky. “You may disagree with the policies. You may think the policies are incorrect, but no president wants America to fail.”
Roginsky went on to criticize the mentality that suggests Barack Obama is a Manchurian Candidate. Kelly and Tantaros agreed with her assessment that the video goes a step too far to be an effective recruiting tool for Republicans in the fall.
