Menendez Holds Short Presser to Fire Back Against DOJ Charges

Senator Robert Menendez held a brief press conference tonight to fire back at reports earlier today the Justice Department is planning to file criminal corruption charges against him, alleging he improperly used his influence to lobby for policy on behalf of a big donor.

The New Jersey Democrat touted everything he has done for the people of his state, talking about rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy and 9/11. At one point, Menendez even invoked Iran (and his vocal disagreement with the White House on the issue has raised some eyebrows on the right today about the timing of the DOJ announcement).

Menendez declared, “I am not going anywhere.” He briefly addressed his friendship with Dr. Salomon Melgen (the donor in question) before telling the reporters present he wouldn’t be taking their questions.
