Morning Joe Slams GOP and Paul Ryan Over Russia Moves: Trump is ‘Not Defending the Republic’

Joe Scarborough teamed up with Mike Barnicle on Tuesday in order to denounce President Trump and the GOP for distracting America from Russia’s breach of the country’s national security.

Morning Joe today took on Trump’s demand for a Department of Justice investigation into whether his 2016 campaign was “infiltrated” by the FBI. Scarborough kicked off by calling on House Speaker Paul Ryan to stand up to Republican congressmen Devin Nunes and Mark Meadows for their attempts to subvert the Russia investigation and destroy the GOP.

“We’re just asking Paul Ryan to pick up the phone and go, ‘Hey, Devin, listen, you’re my buddy, you’ve been loyal to me, I understand, but you’ve stepped over the line here,” Scarborough said. “Mark Meadows, you’ve stepped over the line. You want to take me on, you want to divide our party before I leave? We can do that, but you’re going to lose. You’ll have the votes in the short run, but you’re going to destroy the Republican Party.’”

Barnicle criticized members of the House Freedom Caucus for attacking the conduct of America’s intelligence agencies while declining to acknowledge the evidence that Russians were messing with the country’s core foundations.

“They’ve never mentioned the fact that we were victims of an act of war,” Barnicle said.

“Mike, we have a commander-in-chief…” Scarborough began.

“Who is not defending the republic,” Barnicle said.

Scarborough got back to his point by reminding people that Trump’s hand-picked intelligence chiefs all agree with the previous findings that Russia has interfered with American processes and might continue to do so in the future. He sadly concluded that Republicans apparently don’t care about this.
